Build any aircraft you want without needing decals…

Tamiya 1/48 P-38. “Limping Lizzie” came to life with accurate markings, enhanced with a commercial decal for the nose art. The masks were created specifically to support the way the markings were applied to the real thing, allowing for perfect accuracy on the roundels and call sign numbers.

One of the things regular visitors will notice about my builds is that I rarely use the kit decals except for the airframe stencils. I generally choose my builds based on what I want to build rather than what the kit manufacturer offers.

Eduard’s 1/48 scale F6 Hellcat. This Eduard 1/48 Hellcat was built for a family member of its pilot. The markings included the pilot’s name on both sides of the cockpit exactly as it was on the 1:1 scale original. Letters can be made as small as 2.2mm tall

I also, generally, don’t like decals. I prefer to paint my models’ markings because they look better, are often more accurate, and are easier to apply.

Tamiya 1/48 A6M5 Zero. All of the markings on this captured Zero are painted except the airframe stencil just forward of the tail. Custom font and roundel mask created to represent a hand-painted RAF marking.

I am happy to launch a new product on Making-History; bespoke paint masks for scale modellers that want to create unique models.

Except for the chevron at the nose intake and the warning arrow behind the cockpit all of the markings on this Hasegawa 1/48 Corsair were painted, including the eagle motif on the tail.

All you need provide are the references necessary to replicate your subject’s markings and I will do the rest. The masks are provided on either frosted vinyl or yellow adhesive sheet, depending on the application.

I discarded Roden’s 1/32 scale kit decals and painted all of the markings on “Schweinhund III”, including the name (which wasn’t supplied with the kit decals anyway). The “W” was specifically drawn to match the reference photo whereas the kit decal wasn’t quite right.
